Tuesday Poem by Remi Olutimayin

4 April 2017/in Tuesday Poetry
Drowning in a Sea of Angry Children

This is short, true, and heavy
I bear madness and its levy
I cannot reconcile the loss
Of trading manners for dross

Can you fathom how deep
The best of us can sleep
When sanity bids us to wake
For sleep gives nothing, only takes

I have but a short time to admit
Mindless musings where I sit
Be not amazed or amused
This is how we are all used

I wait for praises to visit me
In my daily fight for victory
But they will not come my way
My victory is seeing one more day

So stand with me on the queue
To sort out of facts what is true
What lingers after every sudden change
What stays from what we rearrange

Broken before they were spoken
Promises litter like party tokens
We are many, we are a sea
I drown you, and you drown me

They say anger is madness temporary
So this is not anger in our shared story
This is inherited frustration and hope
Revealed in the very fact that we grope

Don’t get lost in this sea of us
Don’t get found as sad loss
Wisps of gratitude separate
The strong from the ingrate

Let us remember and cherish
What remains when we perish
Not our anger or our madness
Just faint echoes of existence

Live. This is not a clever quote
This is not something of rote
This is a choice, a value, an act
Living is our only true fact.

Are you drowning in our sea?
You’re in common company
Do you want to make it to shore?
Simple. Do less & live more.
