Contemporary Afro-pop music began to blossom after it stopped trying to sound like its contemporaries worldwide. That speaks for originality. Enter Mo’ Cheddah, teenage female diva  all grown now. She is back from a hiatus probably instigated by her nude photo mess some years back.

She calls her comeback single Destinambari hinting at a hugely popular Bollywood film circa late eighties, early nineties. The rhythm also alludes to that Indian percussion that graced many musical interludes in long Indian movies.She also mentions Sunita and memories of Toofan and Black and White TVs crackling with tracking lines and static buzz rends my memory.

Her latest oeuvre is a very matured love song, in fact it is conjugal in its rapprochement. Destinambari becomes a metaphor for affection and once affection has been declared, consensual sex must follow. Mo’Cheddah becomes the modern woman who implores for a sexual encounter while hinting that she sought conception, precisely twins by referencing that popular Yoruba folk song about beans being the staple food for nourishing twins.

A quick word on the video. Kudos to Clarence Peters who made a simple video with the use of elaborate scenery. Noteworthy was the denouement scene in a bamboo hut that served as the conjugal room for the diva and her love interest played by Uti Nwachukwu.
